Interested in Joining?
So you are considering joining us ?
There are a number of stages you will have to go through before you are welcomed into the Catenian Association. You will also need to know how much it is likely to cost. Some other questions that you may have are also covered on the Q & A page.
As with most ‘clubs’ there are conditions of membership that must be met and the following are ours.
First Stage
Membership is only open to practising Catholic laymen over the age of 18. There are no specific requirement in terms of occupation. Neither is there a requirement for a members wife to be a Catholic, some are not and still participate fully in the enjoyment of Catenian life.
We expect you to attend meetings of the Circle regularly, unless prevented by some reasonable difficulty, so it is probable that you live and work in or around Sale, Sale Moor, Timperley and adjacent areas.
Second Stage
You will be put in contact with our Membership Officer following your decision to indicate an interest in joining us, he will be happy to discuss in detail to any questions or queries that you (or your wife) may have.
Third Stage
If you are still interested and you meet our membership criteria you will be invited to join us after one of our monthly meetings. As a ‘visiting gentlemen’ as we call such guests, you will have the opportunity in a relaxed atmosphere to start to get to know us without any commitment on either side. You will also have the opportunity to attend social events with your wife, before finally deciding if you would like to commit to joining. If you have any further queries, the Membership Officer will again help resolve these with you, after which an application form is completed.
Fourth and Final Stage
The admin side then takes over as our application is dealt with by the Circle Council and plans are made for you to become a full member of the Association. All that then remains is to attend to the financial matters and agree the date of your enrolment, a short procedure at the beginning of a monthly Circle meeting.
That’s all there is to it! You are now a Catenian, a full member of an international Brotherhood of like-minded practising Catholic men.
The Cost of Membership
This is set by individual Circles, with common elements to their subscription rates
Our annual subscription is currently £144. This covers the cost of running the Circle including hospitality after the meetings (£85), Catena, the Association Monthly magazine (£24) and a contribution to the National and Provincial Councils (£35) to contribute to the costs of running the Association.
The cost of any social functions will obviously depend on the nature of the outing in question. These are run on a cost neutral basis over the year. You would be expected to support some, though not necessarily all, of the events that we run.
We also have two charities (see the Charitable Fund Raising page for details) which many members contribute toward annually. Any contribution made to either or both of them is done on a purely voluntary basis.
